Despite being set in New York City, Friends was all filmed on sets in Los Angeles. External shots of New York were slotted in between scenes to help give that feeling of the show being set in Manhattan.

This tour includes over 40 movie locations, including the Tavern on the Green used in Ghostbusters, the skating rink used in Serendipity, Bethesda Fountain, used in Ransom and One Fine Day, and the pigeon-feeding area from Home Alone II. The 6 main characters in Friends all live in the same apartment building. In between scenes shots of this building are shown, and this building is based in Grenwich Village. This building also have a small cafe on the ground floor, however this isn't Central Perk as that was a set in LA.
