Synopsis
New rules by the new Lady Mayoress mean that weight, height, race and sex need no longer be a factor for joining the Police Force. Many see this as a chance at a new career, however not everyone is there through choice. Social misfit Mahoney has been forced to sign up or face jail. Mahoney finds out he can't quit, so makes it his mission to get himself thrown out by alienating Lieutenant Harris.

The Police Academy buildings were in fact Lakeshore Asylum in Toronto, Canada. Since filming Humber College has moved in and taken over all the buildings to make this their Lakeshore Campus.
Director Hugh Wilson makes a small cameo in the film. He's the angry driver that Hightower bumps into from behind when Mahoney is teaching him how to drive.
